Google is planning on launching an experimental, ultra high-speed (over 1 gigabit per second) network, and test it in location(s) across the country. “The level of community support” will be one of the key criteria used by the Google decision makers. You can do your part by nominating Ann Arbor at A2Fiber.com

Not to be confused with Google’s Chrome web browser, or its mobile phone platform, Chrome OS is Google’s web centric operating system for laptops and desktops.  Lifehacker has a great preview worth checking.

Google is sponsoring free wifi at 47 airports across the US now until Jan 15th.  Accompanying it is a photo contest as well as matching donations up to $250,000 from Google to participating non-profits.

On top of the ongoing electronics recycling provided by Recycle Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor residents can recycle their additional e-waste on May 9th at Pioneer High School from 9am to 2pm. A few weeks ago Google Earth was updated with images of the ocean floors, letting you dive deep into marine topography.  Adding to that, Google Earth data was updated again last week to included images from the floors of the Great Lakes, taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  via
