Free Up Space with Monolingual

If you’re like most early adopters of a solid state hard drive, you’re probably doing everything you can to conserve space. One of our Macbook Air users was constantly running up against the storage limits of his new fangled 64GB SSD. There are a number of things that you can do upon a fresh install of OS X, such as not installing the gigs of printer drivers or the built in the support for 88 or so different languages that come with a default installation. These are good options for a fresh install but they get a bit tricky when trying to accomplish this on an existing installation. This is where a program call Monolingual can be very helpful.

Monoligual is a freeware program used for removing unnecessary language resources from within Mac OS, and believe it or not, they consume just under 4 GB of space under Leopard. Just run the program, check all languages that are not needed (close to 100) and click next to have them removed. Upon doing so, you’ll see the verbose status window showing all of the files carried off to file heaven.
