IT Dinner: Theme = Tea

In: Tea

30 Mar 2009

Another successful IT dinner – though there were some who doubted we could pull it off. The theme of tea was a bit daunting but everything came together. Location was Billie’s place this time and we had all the IT geeks plus Jillian, Jenny, and Roan. Drinks and appetizers by Brian included a cocktail with [...]

Backup Drives

27 Mar 2009

We’re often asked for tips on backing up personal computers and/or external storage.  Our reccommendation lately has been the Western Digital Passport external drives.  They come in a variety of volumes, though the 320GB and 500GB seem to be the sweet spot of maximized affordability and funtionallity.  The Passports are BUS-powered USB 2.0 drives, so [...]

At 11am the line was already out the door! This week’s BIG SPECIAL is a LIMITED offering from Zingerman’s Coffee Company. Allen & Steve of the Coffee Company have really been gracious in offering us 21 lbs of something special…you’ll have to come see what it’s all about. And we’ve got a special Mail Order [...]

Giant Pocky!

In: Food

25 Mar 2009

Kim at Bakehouse always has the best treats at her desk (ask, don’t take!).  Today she has giant Pocky, the Japanese chocolate-covered biscuit stick.  I’ve only seen the small, stirrer stick sized Pocky before.  Dig it.

A few weeks ago my Parallels stopped working.  I’d launch the app and immediately be told it was not responding and to force quit.  I restored Parallels (files, prefs, .hdd) from backup, but no dice.  I had been unhappy with Parallels for a while – it was a resource hog, starting the VM and booting [...]

Just got today’s list! Thanks for coming last week to our first Warehouse Sale! The second week promises to be something special as well. Lots of cheeses this time around (relatively). Oh yeah, and a free gingerbread coffeecake to everyone that stops in! Here’s what we’ve got for this Friday, March 20th. English Farmhouse Cheddar [...]

Font School

19 Mar 2009

The Apple Blog has spent this week poising a very nice series on fonts in OS X.  Monday was the 101 introduction, subsequent topics included management, troubleshooting, and additional resources.  It was nice to see the positive reviews & usage for Linotype FontExplorer X, the free font manager we’ve been using in the ZCoB.  Font [...]

Color Your MacBook

In: Geek Goods

15 Mar 2009

We’re fans of the see-thru, hard cases by Speck for the MacBooks; we’ve purchased several for MacBooks in the ZCoB.  The MacBook case is plastic, fairly sturdy but not as tough as the aluminium MacBook Pro cases.  The hard covers by Speck add another layer of protection, preventing chips, cracks, and scratches.  Speck’s cases are [...]
