Here’s an interesting story from Birmingham, England where the city government’s IT Dept rolled out linux desktops to their government offices:

“At one point, realising that most of the usability issues were attributable to Gnome, which had taken three months to configure, staff ripped out Gnome and replaced it with KDE”

KDE and Gnome are the most popular choices for window sytem/desktop environment. Gnome is much more Mac-like, while KDE is more like Windows. I’m surprised they didnt investigate which to use before the roll out.

I also wonder what distro they implemented…Ubuntu?
